So you’re looking into joining the military? You’ve done your
homework and learned about the basics of each branch of service. You think
you have what it takes to join the proud tradition of serving your country.
What do you do next? Where do you go to take the next step of making a decision
that could impact the rest of your life? Military recruiting holds the answers
to your questions. Special military recruiters are trained to help you make
an educated decision about joining the military. Recruiters from military recruiting
offices all over the United States can sit down with you, answer all of your
questions, and help you make a smooth transition into the military branch of
your choice.
Meeting with someone from military recruiting shouldn’t be a stressful
or intimidating process. Recruiters are there to answer your questions and
help you make the best decision for you and for the Armed Forces. Don’t
be afraid to ask questions! Keep in mind that meeting with someone from military
recruiting is not a legally binding process. You are not committed to the military
until you sign the final contract. And don’t be afraid to ask your recruiter
what specific educational benefits and signing bonuses are offered.
The more educated you are about the Armed Forces and about the military recruiting
process, the better the recruiter will be able to answer your questions and
help you make the best decisions for your future. Get an idea of what branch
of service you are interested in, and what type of career path you would like
to pursue. Coming prepared with an idea of when you would like to begin training
can also speed the process. The Armed Forces offers different Delayed Entry
Programs. Ask your recruiter specific questions that apply to your specific
situation and timetable. Prepare yourself by becoming familiar with the ASVAB,
or Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. The ASVAB is a standard test
given to all potential recruits. Higher scores on this exam open the door for
many career paths in the Armed Forces.
